Veterans Day Essay
Veterans Day
Essay
Veterans need to be honored every
day because of all the hardships they have faced to help us have a free
country.
To me, I think that honoring veterans every day is so
important.
P.1 Honoring Veterans is important because
without them we would not have the freedoms we have now. Whenever I watch war
movies on TV, I try to think that I am in the movie, but when I really think
about Veterans, I could be on the front lines helping these brave men fight for
our country. When we had a guest speaker come to talk about when he served, one
of the quotes that I remembered was, “Mothers, Sisters, Fathers, Brothers, and
Grandparents can go to sleep at night without worrying.” The reason his words stick with me is because it
describes how much veterans care about protecting us as individuals.
P.2 It is key to remember that Veterans are
all around us: neighbors, grandparents, and even teachers. Just think of all the privileges we get to
enjoy daily as a result of their service.
It can be easy to overlook things like freedom of speech and religion
and go on with the day to day. Without
people willing to protect these freedoms, we could be persecuted for our
beliefs like so many were in WWII. 16
million brave men fought in that war that didn’t know whether or not they would
make it back home to their families.
P.3 During the draft, men didn’t have an
option. They were forced out of the safety of their daily lives and thrown into
battle, The hopes, dreams, and lives they were building in America were put on
hold in order to defend not only our people but others in foreign countries who
were being killed unjustly. These veterans brought home with them the weight of
the war. They lost friends, took lives, and came home and integrated back into
our society. Where they no longer thought they belonged. As in the case of the
Vietnam vets, they came back to many who treated them in a bad way.
